A Chicago police officer was suspended for 15 months and ordered to undergo counseling for demanding free coffee and pastries from six Starbucks Coffee houses over five years.
The Police Board of Chicago decided in May to suspend Officer Barbara Nevers, a 14-year veteran, after finding her guilty of using her job as a police officer to intimidate the employees of the coffeehouses to give her free coffee by flashing her badge, handcuffs or gun when they asked for payment.
“I don’t pay for coffee, I am an officer, I get coffee for free,” Nevers, 55, allegedly told employees who asked for payment. The city’s attorneys also alleged that she stole juice from a Starbucks in July 2004. She was acquitted of the theft charge in Cook County Criminal Court in 2005.
Nevers’ attorney said she never used her job to demand coffee but insisted that some coffeehouses gave it to her for free because she was an officer.
Several employees testified before the board that they did indeed offer free coffee to police officers but said Nevers would get annoyed if they asked her to pay. They also said they did not give out free pastries.
“She was vehement about getting the free pastries,” one store manager testified, describing how Nevers came behind the counter angrily. After the incident, the manager told her she was banned from the store.
Nevers testified that she never demanded free coffee but took it if offered. She also denied showing her gun to employees.
“I don’t demand anything,” she said.

Brazen Sexual Assault At Elkhart Police Station, Uniformed Victims Given Time Off For Recovery
Posted by Officer Bob
ELKHART, IN - Indiana police officers recently toughed out a sustained assault on their working environment when a depraved motorist presented herself for…processing…at the station. Officers can be seen on the video collecting photographic evidence and otherwise maintaining the strictest professional standards. Whatever you do, don’t take a close look at the computer desktop wallpaper visible on the officer’s monitor. It wouldn’t be right to rubberneck on a photographic investigation in progress.
Plastic Bullets For “Cockroach” Florida Attorney

BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA - Hoo boy: Broward’s finest is a crew that sure knows how to handle malcontents. Take Elizabeth Ritter, one of these uppity book-learned troublemakers with a law degree. She attracted the gunfire of officers during a protest a few years ago. Why? Well, for one thing the crazy woman had escaped whatever kitchen she should have been attending to and was loose on the street waving her cardboard sign threateningly within twenty yards of the officers. The cops shot her with rubber bullets twice. Their Sergeant, Michael Kallman had a good chuckle at the incident, (captured on a video they shot themselves), referring at 2:08 to the protestors as “scurrying cockroaches”. Excessive force lawsuit or not, you gotta admit, it’s fun to be a cop.
NYPD Officer’s Baton Cruelly Attacked By Man’s Legs

NEW YORK, NY — As if it’s not bad enough that cops have to watch their backs on the streets, every now and then, some malcontent decides it’s time to mess with the policeman’s gear. Don’t believe me, see for yourself in this clip, where one Michael Cephus attacks an NYPD officer’s night stick again and again with his legs and shins. And for good measure, Cephus whacks the officer’s stick with his ass right at the end there. It just goes to show that once you get one of these street criminal types going, they won’t know when to leave well enough alone.
Protestors Ain’t Got A Leg To Stand On In Providence

PROVIDENCE, RI - During a labor union demonstration, some officers were attacked by protesters. One protestor was so vicious in her assault of the cops that her own knee was severely dislocated by her violent outbursts targeting peace officers.

Providence RI, Industrial Workers of the World (IWW) march on Jackies Galaxy, a local restaurant chain supplied by HWH/Dragonland in NYC, a supplier notorious for slave labor conditions and a lack of basic labor rights. A few blocks before finishing the march North Providence police brutally tackled two of the marches after they moved to the sidewalk too slowly, both were arrested and one suffered a badly broken leg in the attack.
“Chill Out, It’s Just A Dog, You Can Buy Another One”

SAN MARCOS TX - Congrats to Officer Paul Stephens, who has his priorities straight in an increasingly upside-down world. Looks like he pulled over some speeders who gave him some cock-and-bull story about the dog in their car having some kind of veternary emergency. Sure, he could have handled it some other way, but Officer Stephens knew that raising revenue is the number one job of police departments everywhere - so he kept the couple pulled over on the side of the road for twenty minutes, writing up a speeding ticket.
Sure, the dog died while waiting for him, but look at it like this: they’ll save on the vet bill.
San Marcos police are investigating an officer who stopped a car to an emergency veterinary clinic, then kept the occupants waiting while their poodle died.
Michael Gonzalez was allegedly driving 95 miles per hour when he and girlfriend Krystal Hernandez were stopped early August 5th as they headed south on Interstate 35 toward the New Braunfels clinic. Missy, their teacup poodle, died while the pair said they waited 20 minutes for Officer Paul Stephens to issue a ticket.
Says San Marcos Police Chief Howard Williams, “This was not our finest hour.” Williams said the department began an investigation after Gonzalez filed a complaint over the incident.
Gonzalez and Hernandez said they pleaded with Stephens to allow them to continue on and later turn themselves in to be ticketed. They also said they offered for Gonzalez to stay behind while Hernandez drove with Missy to New Braunfels.
Hernandez said Stephens responded: “Chill out, it’s just a dog, you can buy another one.”
Deputy Protects Himself While Partners Watch

GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. - Yet another case of street violence making victims out of cops: In this video, we can clearly see Deputy Brian Tollison being viciously attacked by one 18-year-old Jeremy Rucker. Thirteen times Rucker strikes the Deputy’s fist with his face while surrounding officers stand watch, alert for any further attacks. Later, Rucker won’t quit and lashes out at a Deputy’s shoe with the back of his head. Dedicated, hardened criminals never know when to pack it in.
Denver Police Suffer Violent Assault At The Hands Of 58-Year-Old Cyclist

DENVER - Back in April during the home opener of the Colorado Rockies, two undecover Denver cops, Michael Cordova and James Costigan suffered a savage attack at the hands of 58-year-old bicyclist John Heeney.
Heeney attacked the officer’s knees and elbows repeatedly with his head as well as holding down one officer’s forearm with his chin and throat. Heeney was charged with 2nd Degree Assault on a police officer, right up until the lousy liberal district attorney saw the below videotape and dropped the charges.
Handicapped Crimewave, Part XXVII

DAYTON, OH - Officers knocking at the door of one Denise Harris, a blind cancer sufferer and recent crime victim, somehow found the fine art of conversation wasn’t enough to avoid an altercation requiring a stun gun and handcuffs. Is there no end to the threat these disabled desperadoes pose to the boys in blue?
Family members are angry and speaking out after Dayton police used a stun gun on a woman who is blind and suffering from cancer. Police said they were looking for a suspect when they knocked on Denise Harris’s door Thursday morning. But according to both police and witnesses, things quickly got out of hand and Harris was tased.
“She was able to force herself down on to the floor and not be cooperative, grabbing on to the detective. A taser was dry stunned onto her arm to control her hand movement, then she was cuffed,” said Sgt. Charles Anderson.
Her family said she was yelling at officers because she was scared.
“She was terrified. She was extremely terrified,” said Harris’s niece, Dionna. “She was scared because the person identified themselves as a police officer. But she’s been robbed before by someone using the same technique.”
They said police used unnecessary force when officers came to the Fernwood Avenue apartment looking for Harris’s son, who is wanted. Officers said Harris attacked a detective.
“She’s blind and they pulled her off her Futon, handcuffed her and tased her because he said she swung at him. She can’t see,” said Harris’s sister Elvita Harris. “I’m very frustrated and upset. Dayton police need to implement a sensitivity program.”
Hey, I Wouldn’t Pay For Starbucks Either

CHICAGO - Chicago Police Officer Barbara Nevers just got suspended for demanding free coffee and pastry from Starbucks. All I gotta ask is, have you ever tasted dat crap? It’s like someone burned a shoe and put out da fire wit boiling water. Nevers, dat’s when I’d pay for it, lemme tell ya. I’d take a maple bar, though.
